The History and Story Behind My Site

Any time you begin a project, no one is ever sure what will take place. The road is sure to be bumpy, but you make the best of things and continue on, making changes as you go...if needed. That's just what I've done here with Miss Laurel Highlands.

The first year was a test to see if it could actually be made to happen. I got lucky...there was a lot of interest and things pulled together easily for me. And now, there have been several sucessful years. Each bringing with it a different type of queen and entertainment. Not to mention the changing of sponsors, program, line-up, rules, and regulations.

And now, our pageant and queens, are running on a small version of the four larger pageants that have been going on for over twenty years. We are still growing, and may still make some changes as we continue to offer this region some of the finest in female impersonation which was the whole reason I wanted to do this in the beginning.

Our pageant now covers The Laurel Highlands' territory, which includes nothing further west than the border of the Pa state, nothing further south than the border of the Pa state, nothing further east than Harrisburg, and nothing further north than Rochester, NY.

 

The decision in limiting it to this was done by our financial sponsors in cooperation with the owner. 

We believe this will keep our winners closer to our home area and we will see more of them as it will cost less to travel to be seen in our area. 

The Board of Directors-

Since the beginning, I have had a few special people that I have talked things over with and asked many questions to concerning the creating of The Miss Gay Laurel Highlands Pageant. Advisors, if you will, seems to be what they were, as this is an un-paid position. But along with the many other changes, I made it official, and asked these few special people to use the title of board of directors. After 12 years and as things are still non-profit, we will be changing the title to Advisory Committee. The pannel, after fifteen years now, is being shrunk down to just a few which have proven their care for the best through their time and commitment.

I thought long and hard on who should be asked. Each in their own way, will bring something different to the table. Most have been there since the start. While always wanting the best for the pageant, I feel it is best to look at other views and not just your own.

The first is a former niteclub owner, comedic entertainer, playwright, and sucessful businessman.  Also since the beginning, someone who has worked his way up from spectator, to judge, to legal advisor and now is our number one financial sponsor.  

I hope you will join me in thanking them for all they have done and will continue to do while they serve as our Advisory Committee.
